| VBODA Band Festival |
| |
Once each year in March, the Virginia Band and Orchestra
Directors' Association (VBODA) sponsors an adjudicated band festival
at a nearby high school. Bands from local middle schools and high
schools perform at the festival and are evaluated by a panel of
notable band judges. Each band performs a warm-up march and two
concert selections from a required list. After the performance,
the bands go to a separate room to play a selection of music from
sight. Ratings of I- Superior, II-Excellent, III-Good, IV-Fair,
and V-Poor are presented. In addition, each band receives taped
and written comments from each judge assessing a variety of performance
details. This is a very important event for the band, and a highlight
of the year. A minimum of one chaperone for every ten students is
needed for this event. |

| Spring Trip-Hershey
Park 2002 |
| |
Each year in May, the band travels to
a local theme park to perform in a music festival. This event is
similar to the VBODA festival, but the rules are a bit different.
In addition to ratings, each band is given the choice of competing
against other bands for trophies. Additionally, sight-reading is
not a part of these events. |
| |
After performing, the students are allowed
into the theme park to ride the attractions! A minimum of one chaperone
for every ten students is needed for this event. |

Hayfield Summer
Band Camp
|
| |
Each summer, the Hayfield Band Boosters sponsor
a summer band camp. Not to be confused with the Marching Band
Camp, the Hayfield Summer Band Camp is designed for rising fifth
graders through rising ninth graders, beginning through advanced
levels. The dates and hours of the camp vary from year to year,
and information and enrollment forms are available each spring.
|
| |
Summer band camp provides 1 hour of ensemble instruction
and 1 hour of sectional instruction daily, culminating in a concert
at the end of the camp. It is a great way for your child to continue
increasing his/her skills during the summer break.

A car pool list will be available to help alleviate
transportation problems.
