When: Saturday, December 11, 2004 -Check with Mr. Helm for your appointed time. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your audition time in order to warm-up, etc. Additionally, it is suggested that students play some warm-ups at home before leaving for the event. Where: J.E.B. Stuart High School, 3301 Peace Valley Lane, Falls Church, VA 22044 How: 1-Arrive at Stuart High School through the front entrance. Check in with at the registration desk. You will be assigned a number, and a card. Do not forget this number! 2-Go to the warm up room, and prepare your instrument. Warm-up by playing scales, etc. Wait for your number to be called. Snacks and drinks will be available in the cafeteria. You may want to bring food/drinks, but you cannot consume them in the warm-up room. 3-When your name is called, go with the room guide to the judging room. Only audition participants are allowed in this area!! Friends and family members are not allowed in the judging area. 4-When entering the judging room, the room guide will tell the judge your number, and the judge will give you instructions. DO NOT SPEAK TO THE JUDGE! This can disqualify you! Contact the room guide if you have any questions or problems. There are four parts of the audition (not necessarily in this order): -Major Scale(s)-The judge will tell you the scale(s) to play. -Major scales are to be played at 60 beats per minutes per note. -Chromatic Scale-See specifications page for minimum requirements. -The chromatic scale is to be played four notes per second. -Prepared Piece (see list) -Sight reading-Listen for judges' instructions Be sure that all of the four audition requirements are performed. For some instruments, students may have to go to two separated rooms to perform all of the requirements. 5-After the audition, student are free to leave. An unofficial results list will be posted at Stuart High School. Official results and score sheets will be mailed to band directors, and will be available in early January.
