Congratulations to the Band on their great trip to Chicago.
Friday of the trip, the bands hads a clinic with Dr. Farris, one of the band directors at Noethwestern University in
their band room on the campus. He instructed them in the nuances of playing on a higher level, in a college setting at one
of the top rated music schools in the country.
Saturday of the trip, we performed in competition for university band directors from around the country. The syphonic
band received the high ratings of 85, 87 and 88 out of a 100 point scale, which translated into
a silver rating.
The wind ensemble received superior ratings of 90, 91 and 92 out of a 100 point scale, translating into a gold rating.
Both bands were ranked second in their repective classes.
The wind ensemble also received the high honor of the adjudicators trophy. This is given to
the bands with a high score of 92 or better.
Because if the high level of performances from all the bands, choirs and orchestras, Hayfield received the
very highly coveted award of Festival Sweepstakes. This award is only only given to one school
and only if the scores bear out a very high level of performance from each the groups.
We also had a fabulous time shopping on the "Magnificent Mile", singing at the "Blue Man" show, having a front row
seat for dolphin show at the Shedd Aquarium, dinner and fun at "Gameworks", and the heroic dinner, show and dance at
"Medieval Times".
The chaperones were all truly fantastic, and some of the moms didn't miss an opportunity to shake their booties. A great
time was had by all!!!
