Patrick Burke : Director of Bands

Patrick Burke has been at Hayfield since 1988
serving as the director and instructor of the
Marching Band,Wind Ensemble, Symphonic
Band, Concert Band,Jazz Band, Guitar I and II,
Music Theory and middle school
classes such as Beginning Percussion,
Cadet Band and General Music. Since 2002
Mr. Burke has served 10 year as the 
Fine Arts Chair for middle and high school
performing and visual arts. After-school
ensembleshave included Jazz Band, Pep Band,
Pit Orchestra and Full Orchestra.

Mr. Burke is a graduate of The University of
Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science
in Instumental Music, and George Mason University
 in Fairfax, Virginia with a Masters of Arts in Teaching. The Hayfield Bands have performed  at such events as the Virginia Music Educators Convention, and W.E.T.A. radio's "Outstanding Young Artists in our Community" concert. The bands have also performed in such venues as Riverside Church in New York City, and the Concert Stage at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Mr. Burke has received commendations from the National Band Directors Association, The Virginia Band and Orchestra Association, and is the recipient of the "Hawk Award" from Hayfield Secondary School. Mr. Burke has served as guest conductor of the United States Air Force Band in Washington D.C., and has performed with the Virginia Grand Military Band. Mr. Burke has served as the vice president of the Fairfax County Band Directors Association, and as the District Ten representative to the Virgina Band and Orchestra Directors Association. He has served as a clinician and adjudicator to concert festivals across the northeast.
Mr. Burke lives in Lorton,Virginia with his wife and two children.

Robert Specketer     rcspecketer@fcps.edu
is excited to join the Hayfield community as the itinerant band director at both Hayfield Secondary and Hayfield Elementary. Previously, Mr. Specketer attended James Madison University, where he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors degree in instrumental music education. He then taught for two years in Middlesex County Public Schools (Saluda, VA) at Middlesex High School, where he served as director of bands, choirs, guitar, and also taught music theory. 

During his tenure at Middlesex High School, he received Excellent ratings at the District XV Concert Band Assessment in both 2012 and 2013, and also formed the Middlesex High Charger Pep Band. He also created the MHS Guitar Program through funds donated to the MHS music department.
 

As a member of both small and large ensembles at James Madison University, Mr. Specketer has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Arts with the JMU Brass Band and along-side the Madison Brass, JMU's feature faculty brass quintet. As a member of the Marching Royal Dukes, he was featured as a soloist in 2008 and 2009, and served as Drum Major in 2010. Mr. Specketer as participated in the JMU Wind Symphony, JMU Symphony Orchestra, and the JMU Jazz Ensemble.
